Nolen, Swann sign with Bulldogs
LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland softball coach Heather Stanfill announced the signing of Houston County High School’s Shannel Nolen and Ravenwood High School’s Nicole Swann this week to scholarship papers for the 2009-10 academic year. Noel and Swann become the fifth and sixth Bulldog signees for Stanfill this year.
Swann is a three-year letterwinner for coach Kark Akin at Ravenwood, earning Honorable Mention All-District honors as a freshman and sophomore. She was named to the All-District Tournament team as a junior.
Swann has received awards for Most Outstanding English (2005-06) and Most Outstanding Interactive Multi-Media Student (2008) as well as being honored as a RHS Good Citizen. She is also a part of the RHS Mentoring Program.
Swann is the daughter of Michael and Cindi Swann of Brentwood.
Nolen has earned four letters for coach Becky Burdette at Houston County in Erin, Tenn. The 5-foot-9 utility player earned All-District 10-A and All-Area accolades last season as well as All-State from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Nolen batted .505 with 49 hits, a .673 on-base percentage, .721 slugging percentage, eight doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs in 2008.
She is the daughter of Ron and Gwen Nolen of Cumberland City, Tenn. Her brother played on the tennis team at Tennessee.
Nolen and Swann join Station Camp’s Christina Manis, Macon County’s Chandra Brooks, Mt. Juliet’s Megan Lavery and White House’s Emily Nicholson in this year’s signing class.
