Softball helps hurricane victims

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s softball team became a part of the Red Cross relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Gustav recently, taking food to the College Hills Church of Christ, one of the area shelters for those who evacuated south Louisiana.

“We chose to take supplies to the hurricane victims because it was the least we could do to help out,” infielder Rebekah George said. “We are thankful we had the opportunity to help.”

The Lady ’Dogs set a goal for the season to give back and serve those in the community.

“When we found out about the church taking in so many individuals, we were pleased to know there was something we could do to help,” first-year head coach Heather Stanfill said. “I want these young student-athletes to understand the importance of serving their community. They have made me proud in their willingness to give back.”

Stanfill and her squad are continuing fall workouts, which conclude the first week of November. The Bulldogs open the spring season February 20 at home versus Indiana Wesleyan.
