CU runs home winning streak to nine
LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Kaysi Arnold recorded 16 kills in 25 chances while junior Taylor Denney and freshman Courtney Zigman both posted double figure assists in Cumberland’s 3-0 victory over Mid-Continent in volleyball action Friday night at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
Cumberland (12-4, 2-2 TSAC) ended a two-match losing streak with the victory and evened its record in TranSouth Conference action, with both victories the visiting Cougars (1-8, 0-6).
It was the seventh double-digit kill match for Arnold and her second in a row after registering 14 kills Thursday night at Bethel University. The Greenbrier, Tenn., native had a .625 hitting percentage in the match, while the Bulldogs hit .326 as a team.
Zigman collected 15 assists and Denney added 11 for CU, which ran its home match winning streak to nine this season. Senior Jordan Pescatore added seven digs for the Bulldogs.
Cumberland held Mid-Continent to just a .030 hitting percentage in the match. Tiffany Payton led the Cougars with eight kills and Lindsey Davis added 11 assists.
Cumberland begins a four-match road swing next Thursday at rival Trevecca Nazarene. The Bulldogs play eight of their final nine matches of the year at home, starting October 13 against Trevecca as well.
