LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland started slow and then dropped two close sets, falling 3-0 to Kentucky Wesleyan in volleyball action Tuesday night in Owensboro, Ky.
The Bulldogs (5-6) managed as many errors as kills in the match (19 each). Lauren Carter placed CU with six kills, while Mackenzie Gass added four kills. Karli Collins posted three kills and a team-high 13 digs, and Meghan Gass recorded nine assists and 11 digs.
The Panthers (3-3) started quickly, winning the first set, 25-12, before the Bulldogs hung tough in the final two sets, falling 25-21 and 25-23. Mary Beth Ryan paced KWC with 10 kills and Jordan Rickert collected 36 assists. Three other Wesleyan players had at least seven kills while Morgan Watson posted 12 digs and Bridget Johnson added 10.
CU hosts the Cumberland Classic this weekend at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center, with nine teams playing 18 matches on two courts over two days. The Bulldogs take on Mid-Continent at Noon and Lindsey Wilson at 2 p.m. on Friday and play Kentucky Christian at 9 a.m., Campbellsville University at 3 p.m. and Fisk University at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
