CU splits at Halloween Bash

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland overcame a two-set deficit to defeat Piedmont College but was swept by host Centre College, splitting a pair of outings Saturday in the Halloween Bash in Danville, Ky.

Mackenzie Gass recorded 15 kills, Lauren Carter added 11 and Brooke Bowers and Jaclyn Rodriguez recorded 20 and 16 digs, respectively, in the comeback victory over Piedmont, 22-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-7. Gass tied her career-high for kills, which she set Friday against Lyon College.

The Bulldogs lost the match to Centre, 19-25, 19-25, 9-25, with Gass and Jaclyn Jordan leading CU with four kills each. Bowers collected eight digs and Rodriguez posted five.

Cumberland finishes the regular season this week with two home matches, taking on Union University on Tuesday and Bethel University on Wednesday, both at 6 p.m. at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center. The TranSouth Championships begin Monday, November 7 at Martin Methodist in Pulaski, Tenn.
