Cumberland defeated in first conference match

LEBANON, Tenn. – A rough offensive night led to a 3-0 University of the Cumberlands victory against Cumberland University Thursday evening in Williamsburg, Ky. Jessica Stas led the way for the Bulldogs with six kills while Danielle Girardeau added five.

CU’s .069 hitting percentage for the match did not produce enough offense as the Bulldogs dropped a close first set 25-23, and losing the final two by scores of 25-15, 25-19.

For CU (4-3), Brooke Bowers contributed 18 digs while Lacey Gregory had seven and Stas posted six. Gregory also helped out with 10 assists and Desirae Burris chipped in with nine.

Cassie Kalman led the Patriots with nine kills while Abby Dundon and Samantha Stuckwisch each had 14 assists.

Cumberland continues conference play at Georgetown College on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. CT match.
