LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland volleyball traveled to the University of the South Wednesday night and despite leading in many statistical categories, the Bulldogs were defeated in three sets, falling to the Tigers in Sewanee, Tenn.
CU (5-11) totaled more kills on the night, had a higher hitting percentage and collected more digs than their opponent, but had much difficulty getting around the Tiger blockers, who accumulated 19.5 blocks throughout the match. Cumberland fell by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-19.
Jessi Stas led the Bulldogs with nine kills, Jackyln Munoz contributed seven, and Danielle Girardeau and Mackenzie Gass each had five. Desirae Burris dealt out 12 assists, while Munoz added 13 digs and Brooke Bowers totaled 11.
For the Tigers, Jamie Sue Wilson had nine kills and 11 digs, and Rachel Schuman delivered 11 assists.
The Bulldogs are back in action September 28th and 29th at the Mid-South Conference Crossover in Georgetown, Ky. On Friday they face the University of Pikeville at 4 p.m. CT, followed by the University of Rio Grande at 6:15 p.m. Cumberland finishes the weekend against Shawnee State at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
