LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland volleyball hosted #13-ranked Georgetown College Tuesday night at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center. Rylee Butler led CU with five kills, Caitlin Carlander handed out nine assists, and Brooke Bowers contributed ten digs, as the Bulldogs were defeated in three sets.
Cumberland (7-19) took awhile to get going in the first set, falling behind 13-7 before a CU timeout and a Jacklyn Munoz kill pulled the Bulldogs to within two at 17-15. Consecutive CU attack errors gave GC a 20-15 advantage, and another Munoz kill would be the last point Cumberland would score in the set, losing 25-16.
The second set began with three straight service aces by Georgetown and propelled to Tigers to an early 10-1 lead. GC held a steady lead throughout the set, never trailing and holding their biggest advantage at 24-9. The Bulldogs were only able to muster three kills in the game, compared to GC’s 12, in the Tigers’ 25-10 win.
Set three began just as set two did, with Georgetown rushing out to a 10-1 lead. Kills by Butler and Danielle Girardeau provided some offense for CU, but it was not enough down the stretch as GC held onto their lead and ended the match with a 25-14 victory.
For Georgetown, Rachel Eubanks had 12 kills, Lindsey Martindale tallied 19 assists, while Lindsey Wise and Rebekah Moore each added eight digs.
The Bulldogs travel to Wise, Va., for the Mid-South Conference Crossover, facing UVA-Wise Friday at 3 p.m. CT and Bluefield College Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.
