LEBANON, Tenn.- The Women’s Volleyball season comes to a close as they fall to the University of the Cumberlands, 3-1 in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Nicole Carey led the Phoenix in kills with 16, while Isabella Curcio followed behind with nine. Sadie Edmonston reached a new season high in digs with 34 in the match. Bianca Rodriguez led the Phoenix in assists with 15.

The Phoenix were able to jump to a 4-1 lead over the Patriots in the start of the first set, due to a kill by Lauren Galvan and a pair of kills by Carey. The Patriots quickly tied the game at four due to Cumberland errors. The Patriots were able to go on an 8-0 run, putting them ahead, 12-4. The Phoenix tried to rally back but the Patriots were able to go on another 5-0 run, coming from kills by Olivia Verdecchia, and Kira Ervin, increasing the lead to 17-7. A kill by Victoria Johnson, and Curcio helped spark a 3-0 run by the Phoenix, cutting the lead to 22-10. An ace by the Patriots, and an error by the Phoenix, allowed the Patriots to take set one, 25-11.

A kill by Curcio, and Olivia Dodd helped the Phoenix take a 3-2 lead to start set two. An ace by Shea Moore, and a kill by Maddie Perez allowed the Phoenix to tie the game at nine. A pair of errors by the Phoenix, allowed the Patriots to regain the lead with a score of 16-13. A kill by Carey tied the game for the Phoenix at 19. A 3-0 run by the Patriots coming from a pair of kills by Lily Chapman, allowed the Patriots to take set two, 25-21.

A pair of kills by Dodd, and an error by the Patriots allowed the Phoenix to take an early 4-2 lead in set three. A handful of kills by the Patriots allowed them to tie the Phoenix at seven. Another pair of kills by Dodd, and a solo by Curcio allowed the Phoenix to take a 15-12 lead. Two errors by the Patriots and a kill by Carey, helped increase the Phoenix lead to 20-16. A handful of errors by the Patriots, allowed the Phoenix to take set three with a score of, 25-23.

Set four was very back-and-forth as errors by both teams put the score tied at five. A kill by Curcio, and a pair of errors by the Patriots allowed the Phoenix to take the lead at 10-9. A pair of kills by Carey continued to increase the lead for the Phoenix, making the score 16-13. Four straight kills by the Patriots allowed the Patriots to tie the Phoenix at 23. Another 3-0 run by the Patriots allowed the Patriots to take set three with a score of 26-24, winning the match, 3-1.

The Phoenix finish the season going 11-18 overall, and 8-8 in the Mid-South.
