Lebanon, Tenn.-- Cumberland women's volleyball picks up a 3-0 sweep victory over Fisk University on the road.

The Bulldogs went on an early 6-0 run to take an impressive lead in set one. The Phoenix picked up their energy and slowly brought themselves back into the game, earning their first lead of the set at 12-11 from a Lauren Galvan service run. Fisk was quick to recover, however, and pulled out another run that put them at a three point advantage at 19-16. The Bulldogs held down that lead until Cumberland was able to come back once again and tie the score at 24-24. It was a tense race to the end with ties at 25-25 and 26-26, but the Phoenix powered through to pick up a first set win at 28-26.

The Phoenix had a much stronger start to set two with some lineup adjustments. Cumberland went on an early four point run to secure a lead that they were able to hold onto for the entire set. The Phoenix controlled all the momentum and took the set with a score of 25-14.

The Phoenix carried their success into set three, where they took another early lead that they were able to defend throughout the set. The Bulldog blockers played consistently well at the net throughout the entire match, but Cumberland’s attackers found success with tool shots and worked around the hands in front of them. Cumberland took set three by ten points with a 25-15 score, making this their fourteenth 3-0 sweep win of the season.

Cumberland will have one more regular season road match this Thursday, when they will take on Tennessee Southern in Pulaski. They will end the regular season at home for a senior day match against Thomas More on November 5 at 1 pm.
