Dwayne Deering enters his 29th year at Cumberland University and 26th as the head coach of the volleyball team.

Deering has compiled a 499-351 record at his alma mater, winning five conference championships (1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997). A five-time Conference Coach of the Year (1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1997), Deering has seen each of his four-year players receive degrees from Cumberland University.

He also spent 15 years as the head coach of both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at CU, garnering five Conference Coach of the Year honors (1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999). His teams won four conference championships, three straight for the men from 1997-99 and the women in 1999, and made four national tournament appearances. In back-to-back seasons (1998-99), the men’s tennis team earned the highest team grade-point-average in the nation.

Deering also served as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams during his tenure and was inducted into the Cumberland University Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

The Lafayette, Tenn., native received his master’s from Middle Tennessee State University.
