Cumberland splits at Nationwide Classic

Cumberland got off to a hot start in the first night of the Nationwide Classic as the Lady Bulldogs stormed past Virginia Intermont, 95-61. Renae Williams led the way with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Alison West recorded her first double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Keshia Brown had 13 points; Bona Ogada had 13 and Keela Henry had 12. The Lady Bulldogs outscored their opponents in the paint, 56-28.

In the second night of the Classic, the Lady Bulldogs again started strong as they built a 17-point lead with about 11 minutes to play but were outscored 33-14 in the last 11 minutes to lose to Berry College, 79-77. Renae Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with a double-double, as she scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Kari Maddox and Chaquaila Gaten each had 12 points, and the No. 15-ranked Lady Bulldogs fell to 8-2 on the season. They will next be in action on Tuesday, Dec. 18 as they travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Lady Huskies of Houston Baptist University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. CST.
