Brown ties career-high with 20 points in defeat

LEBANON, Tenn. – Blue Mountain College jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead behind nine 3-pointers and cruised to an 89-60 victory over Cumberland Thursday night in women’s basketball action Thursday night in Blue Mountain, Miss.

Cumberland (8-12, 2-8 TranSouth) lost big for the second straight game after playing 11 consecutive close contests. The Bulldogs shot just 38 percent in the opening half compared to 51 percent by the Lady Toppers, who made 18 field goals in the period, half of them from behind the arc.

Keshia Brown tied her career-high with 20 points to lead Cumberland, while Simone Ryan scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Jordan McCormick hit four 3-pointers and led four BMC players in double figures with 18 points. Katelynn Wright netted 15 points, Anna Lisa Powell posted 14 points and Lauren Burgess collected 10 points. Joy Pierce led the Lady Toppers with 11 rebounds, and the home team nailed 13 total 3-pointers in the contest.

The Bulldogs finished 0-for-10 from 3-point range and just 10-of-24 at the foul line.

Cumberland hosts rival Trevecca Nazarene Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
