LEBANON, Tenn. – Jessica Pace scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Casie Cowan netted 22 points and Yalonda Davis added 20 points and 10 boards in Cumberland’s 91-67 victory Saturday over Midway College in the Habitat Classic in Georgetown, Ky.

Cumberland (2-1) scored the first 15 points of the contest and led 30-11 with after a Pace bucket with 9:05 remaining in the first half. But Midway went on a 23-7 run to pull within five late in the period, but the Bulldogs pushed the lead back to 10 at 44-34 at intermission.

The first 10 minutes of the second half were nip-and-tuck, though Midway never pulled closer than five points. A 24-8 spurt by Cumberland over a seven-minute stretch midway through the period put the game away. Cowan scored nine points during the run and Pace added six.

The Bulldogs shot just 30 percent from the field in Friday’s loss to Georgetown College but lit up the nets for 54 percent shooting in the victory over Midway, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range.

Pace was the epitomy of CU’s struggles versus Georgetown, making only 2-of-15 from the floor, but the Nashville native hit 11-of-16 in the win, posting her second double-double of the season and third double-figure rebounding performance. She also dished out a team-high six assists.

Cowan made 8-for-19 from the field and 5-of-7 at the foul line for her 22 points, while Davis hit two 3-pointers and was 6-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Kristi Landers also hit a pair of trifectas and Ashley Whitmore was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-of-2 at the free throw line, as both players scored eight points.

Kayla Shull led Midway with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the Eagles shot just 34 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers.

Cumberland plays an exhibition game at Austin Peay on Monday at 5:15 p.m. and opens the home schedule Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest versus Fisk University.
