LEBANON, Tenn. – Tamara Gonzalez netted a season-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and Simone Ryan added 15 points, but Lyon College made 31-of-40 free throws in a 60-57 victory over Cumberland in women’s basketball action Thursday night in Batesville, Ark.

The Bulldogs (3-8, 0-1 TranSouth) trailed nearly the entire game in the conference opener for both teams. CU shot just 33 percent in the first half and trailed by 11 at intermission, but fought back in the second half, pulling within 50-49 with just over two minutes to play after Ryan netted five consecutive points.

The Scots (11-3, 1-0) converted 10-of-12 shots at the foul line in the final two minutes, staving off the Bulldogs even as Gonzalez nailed her final two 3-pointers in the last minute. Lauren Ramsey led the home team with 19 points and Phagen Altorn netted 17, including 13-for-14 at the charity stripe.

Gonzalez scored 12 points in the first half, making a pair of trifectas, while Ryan was the scoring force after the break, posting 13 points in the second period. Lyon hit 56 percent from the field in the first half but made only 4-of-22 (.182) after intermission, but made up for it at the foul line, converting 20-of-27 in the second half.

Cumberland hosts third-ranked Freed-Hardeman on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the home conference opener.
