LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland cross country coach Jim Seckel announced the signing of Beech High School product Elaine Park this week to scholarship papers for the 2017-18 academic year.
The Hendersonville, Tenn., native earned All-County honors in cross country each of the last three seasons for the Bucs and head coach Brice Askren, qualifying for the TSSAA state championships all three years. She placed seventh at the Sumner County championships as a junior and third as a senior.
"Elaine Park is the fourth Beech High School runner that we have brought into our program over the last five years,” Seckel said. “She is the type of versatile distance runner we need, a very competitive cross country runner who has also shown impressive middle distance speed on the track as well."
During the track season Park reached the sectionals in the 800-meters as a freshman and the 1600-meters as a sophomore. During her junior campaign she won the 1600-meter title in District 9-AAA and placed second in the 800 at the same event, qualifying for the state meet in the 800.
She is the daughter of Jim and Robin Park.
