HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--The Cumberland women's cross country team started the season off strong with a fourth-place finish at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville this morning in their first meet of the season.
The Phoenix were led by sophomore Sasha Petrova who took home the 17th place in 19:03.23 in the 5K race. At the finish, Petrova set her own personal record and fourth best time in program history. The next Phoenix to cross the finish line was transfer Breanna Clayton in 22nd place with a time of 19:16.95 which is a personal best for her. She was followed by sophomore Elise Krone in 38th place (20:12.92).
Sophomore Sarah Sneed crossed the finish line in 46th place with a time of 20:36.39. Senior Hannah Spring finished just 10 seconds behind Sneed in 52nd place with a personal best time of 20:46.13 to round out the meet for Cumberland.
Cumberland also defeated NAIA school Blue Mountain College in total score. The Phoenix will be back on the course on October 3rd when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the 'Live in Lou' Louisville Cross Country Classic.
