Romero leads by seven, CU in first at FHU Invite
Freshman Raquel Romero Valverde posted a round of even-par 72 and leads by seven shots after the first round of the Unilever Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Raquel Romero Valverde shot even-par 72 and Cumberland leads by 13 shots as a team after the first day of the Unilever Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational at Covington Country Club in Covington, Tenn.

Valverde did not play in last week’s opening tournament but started her Cumberland career with the even-par 72. The Palafrugell, Spain, native holds a seven stroke lead over Lindenwood-Belleville’s Paula Vega heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Juniors Savanna Strode and Morgan Stuckey carded rounds of 82 and 83, respectively, and stand tied for seventh and tied for 10th after Monday’s 18 holes. Strode is just three shots from second place in the field of 39 golfers.

Junior Abbey Burgdorf shot an opening-round 84, tied for 13th, while sophomore Anna Leigh Cleveland posted a first-round 90, tied for 22nd.

Cumberland leads host Freed-Hardeman by 13 shots and holds a 15 stroke advantage over Missouri Valley College.
