Valverde, CU women both finish second at Blue Raider Classic

LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Raquel Romero Valverde carded a final-round 76 to place second individually and Cumberland’s women finished second as a team on Tuesday at the Blue Raider Classic in Columbia, Ky.

Valverde posted the second best score of the day and the only other round in the 70’s behind Lindsey Wilson’s Tara Rodenhurst, who carded a one-under par 71 to take low medalist honors at two-over 146. Valverde finished eight shots back for her second-place showing, compiling three birdies and 10 pars in her round.

Junior Savanna Strode shot 82 on Tuesday and tied for eighth overall with a two-day total of 165, while junior Abbey Burgdorf registered an 84 in the second round and placed seventh individually at 163.

Sophomore Delaney Lazenby also tied for eighth with Strode after shooting 85. Sophomore Tessa Barto posted a final-round 95 and placed 18th overall.

Cumberland finished second as a team behind host Lindsey Wilson. The Phoenix finish the fall schedule October 24-25 at the RedHawk Invitational in Athens, Ala.
