Women's Golf tied for fourth after day one

HATTIESBURG, Miss. Cumberland women’s golf finished day one of the Carey Collegiate Fall Classic at Canebrake Country Club tied for fourth place at a 16-over-par, 304.

The Phoenix sit six strokes behind the leader, No.4 Dalton State, after the first day. Two other Mid-South Conference teams participate in the tournament, No. 6 University of the Cumberlands that tied for second and Lindsey Wilson that is currently tied with the Phoenix for fourth.

Maria Pilar Scenna carded a career day, shooting a two-under-par 70 on the day for a share of the lead. Scenna recorded a tournament high six birdies on the day, earning three on both the front and back nine, including three in a row on holes 12-14.

Another Cumberland golfer also cracked the top ten, Raquel Romero Valverde sitting at seventh with a two-over-par day. The senior stood at three-under-par after 10 holes, but a bogey and then three-straight holes of over-par pushed her back in the standings.

Freshmen Tilde Rolandsson and Ida Lihufvudh and sophomore Maggie Anderson rounded out the leaderboard for the Phoenix on the day. Rolandsson finished the first day tied for 27th, scoring a seven-over-par 79. Lihufvudh followed closely with an 81 to tie for 32nd, while Anderson carded an 84 to tie for 42nd.
