Five compete at prestigious Las Vegas Invite

McCray wins title at Southern Open

Head Wrestling Coach Jarad Swint challenged five of his wrestlers to compete in one of the best college wrestling tournaments in the country, The Cliff Keen Invitational. Competing for the Bulldogs were Desean Willis 125, Corey Bleaken 149, Trey Myers 165, Luke Borneman 184 and Xavier Taylor 285. Bleaken and Taylor both won matches at the tournament and Coach Swint said “ we wrestled well out there even in our losses. I see these guys getting better every match out there. We did not get all the wins we would have like to get but were gaining valuable experience wrestling the nations best wrestlers and being in that environment can really help.

Freshman  Corey Bleaken won three matches defeating Chris Cartella from George Mason, Mike Kessler from Rider, and Jody Ashline from Missouri Valley. Ashline is currently ranked 7th in the NAIA national poll. Freshman Xavier Taylor also had a big win, pinning Wade Empting from Missouri Valley. Empting is ranked third in the Central Region. Sophomore Luke Borneman lost a very close 3-1 decision to Jasper Lockett from Missouri Valley who is ranked 1st in the NAIA national poll.

Senior Eric McCray at 184 led the team that went to the Southern Slam taking first at 184. Other placers were sophomore Eric Rogers at 125 4th, Kyle Knox at 149 4th, Daniel Rosbottom at 157 4th, Cory Freeland at 165 2nd, Jordan Powers bumped up to wrestle 184 and defaulted to McCray in the finals to take 2nd.
