July 21, 2005

After a 2004-2005 season that included four NCAA I duals, the Bulldog coaching staff has increased the NCAA I dual meets to six for the 2005-2006 season. The Bulldogs will dual Indiana University (placed 9 th at NCAA I nationals), Gardner Webb University , Eastern Illinois University , University of Illinois (placed 4 th at NCAA I nationals), University of Tennessee-Chattanooga , and Northern Iowa this season. Besides the dual meets the Bulldogs will also compete in the following NCAA I tournaments Eastern Michigan Open, the Michigan State Open, and the Southern Open. The University of Illinois will have three All-Americans returning next year and eight wrestlers that were ranked in the nation. Indiana University will return two All-Americans a national champion at 125 and an All-American at 157. Northern Iowa will have five national qualifiers returning to their line-up at 125, 141, 165 and 184. The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga returns an All-American at 141 and three national qualifiers at 125, 133 and 184. Gardner Webb has two national qualifiers returning at 133 and 149. Eastern Illinois has one national qualifier returning at 174. Head coach Jarad Swint said "When the University of Illinois called and asked if we wanted to dual, I could not pass up an opportunity like that. Even though we wrestle them the day after Indiana , Gardner Webb and Eastern Illinois , the opportunity to wrestle these teams is what I want for my guys. I am also very excited for our team to compete in our first national duals, to host regionals for the first time, and to have eight home events."
