Borneman Leads Bulldogs at Missouri Valley
Marshall, MO -- Junior Luke Borneman led the Bulldogs with his second-place finish at the 12th Annual Missouri Valley College Open tournament. Borneman went 3-1 on the day. He defeated Chad Williams by a 15-2 major decision and Josh Bryant from McKendree by fall in 4:00. Bryant is currently ranked fourth in the NAIA national poll. In the semifinals, Borneman decisioned Ryan Sonderegger from the University of Missouri, 3-2 and fell in the finals to Dorian Henderson by a 9-6 decision.
Freshman Pat Banks recorded a 4-2 record on the day, falling one match shy of placing and making it to the round of eight. Banks had wins over Adam Bourdette by fall in 2:19, Kyle Cunningham from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville by fall 2:44, David Cayce from Lindenwood University by 5-4 decision and received a medical forfeit from teammate David Wiese.
Freshman Nick Sasfy and sophomore Eddie Sanchez went 2-2. Sasfy was one match from placing and had wins over fourth-seed Josh Skurnik from the University of Missouri, 12-10 and a medical forfeit from teammate Jordan Powers. Sanchez had wins over Nick Lobosco from Missouri Baptist, 10-3 and Caleb Gibbons from Missouri Valley, 1-0.
The Bulldogs are up next at home on Friday at 6 p.m. for their last home dual versus NCAA II St. Andrews College from Laurinburg, N.C.
