Chappa and Wiese Lead CU at Missouri

Columbia, MO -- Freshman Joshua Chappa at 125 and red-shirt freshman David Wiese at 157 led the CU wrestlers at the University of Missouri Open by placing second and sixth, respectively, in the freshman/sophomore tournament. Chappa went 4-1 on the day, getting wins over Daniel Rucker (Campbellsville) 8-4, Miguel Guererro (Lincoln) 6-0, Jesse Knott (Missouri Valley) pin 4:13 and Cody Fuller (Missouri Valley) pin 3:24. In the finals, Chappa fell short of the championship to Demetrius Johnson (Tennessee Chattanooga) 8-7.

Chappa picked up two pins on the weekend, taking his total for the season to six. Wiese went 5-2 on the day before medical forfeiting his final match in the fifth- and sixth-place bout. He picked up wins over Corey Zolliger (Indianapolis) pin 3:25, Greer Bivenour (Indianapolis), Tyler Gordon (Lindenwood) 15-7, Corey Bleaken (Cumberland) by medical forfeit and Bryan Jansen (unattached) 5-1. Wiese lost twice to Daniel Wadell (Tennessee Chattanooga) in the second round, 6-1, and in the consolation semifinals, 8-0, and medical forfeited the final match for sixth place. Wiese's six matches on the day helped him move into the team lead for most takedowns with 21.
