Stall and Studer Place at Cumberlands

Williamsburg, KY -- Freshman Will Stall at 184 and sophomore Kyle Studer at 197 placed second and third, respectively, at the University of the Cumberlands Open. Stall went 3-1 on the day, and Studer went 5-1. Stall had wins over Q. Snow from Marion Military Institute, Chad Fyffe from University of the Cumberlands and Ben Wood from West Virginia Tech. Studer had wins over Curtis Miller from University of the Cumberlands, David Riddle from Campbellsville, Jamie Salisbury from West Virginia Tech, Justin Knox from Carson Newman and avenged his first loss in the consolation finals against Jason Sprewell from Carson Newman. Freshman Matt Craig at 133, freshman Kerry Dowell at 149, junior Kyle Knox at 157 and freshman B.J. Stewart all had two wins each.
Bulldogs Fall Short of Placing at Eastern Michigan
Ypsilanti, MI -- The Eastern Michigan Open hosted NCAA I teams that included Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Northwestern, Navy, Pittsburgh, Cleveland State and Central Michigan. It also included NCAAII Findlay and NAIA power Lindenwood.
The Bulldogs had no placers, but all but one wrestler entered in the tournament had a win. Junior Desean Willis at 125 led the team with three wins. Willis had wins over George Petrov from Purdue, Mike Maguire from Eastern Michigan and Bobby Johce from Northwestern. Freshmen Joshua Chappa at 125 and Mikey Davis at 133 had two wins. Chappa had wins over Bill Putman from Purdue and Josh Williams from Central Michigan. Davis was one round away from placing with wins over Matt Ortega from Indiana and Josh Bellinger from Brockport. Junior Eddie Sanchez at 141 picked up a decision over Scott Kelly from Indiana; unattached freshman Nate Godsey at 149 had a pin over Bruce Thompson from Mount St. Joseph; sophomore Corey Bleaken at 157 major decisioned over Tyler Gordon from Lindenwood; Pat Banks at 157 decisioned Andy Hurla from Lindenwood and unattached freshman Eric Metzler at 174 pinned Chris Newton from Findlay.
Statistical leaders for the team are Kyle Studer with a 7-3 record and 15 takedowns. Will Stall leads the team with four reversals; Eddie Sanchez has 15 escapes; Mikey Davis and David Wiese are tied with three two point nearfalls; Mikey Davis has nine three point near falls; Wiese and Corey Bleaken have four riding time points; Joshua Chappa has three pins; Davis has two technical falls and Chappa leads the team with 19 most valuable points. Next for the Bulldogs is a tri-meet Saturday, Nov. 10 in Chattanooga against the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga, Ohio State and Anderson College. The meet begins at 12 p.m. EST.
