Five grapplers win matches at Lindenwood

LEBANON, Tenn. – Ethyn Holbrook, Derek Lunsford, Jacob Scott, Brandon Isbell and Scott Stewart all posted victories, leading the Cumberland wrestling team over the weekend at the Joe Parisi Open at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

Holbrook was pinned in his first match at 133 by Missouri’s Eric Wilson but pinned Lindenwood’s Christian Averill at 1:24 before falling to Missouri’s Taylor Ronan in the wrestleback.

Lunsford won his first match at 141, pinning Wentworth Military Academy’s CJ Young at 0:51, but the freshman lost an 18-11 Decision to Danny Ries. He won a Medical Forfeit against Central Missouri’s Hassan Dean before Iowa’s Mark Ballwweg pinned him at 1:44.

Scott also won his first match by pin at 2:59 over Brent Hentz at 149 but lost a 15-4 Major Decision to Missouri’s Jake Cyr. He then dropped a 12-7 Decision against McKendree University’s Nicolas Roach.

Isbell posted a victory in his opening match at 157, pinning Lindenwood’s Connor Linehan at 2:48 before Falling against Iowa’s Joey Trizzino at 1:56. He also lost a 13-1 Major Decision to Lincoln College’s Darnell Thomas.

Stewart lost a 3-2 Decision to McKendree’s Mandela Johnson in his opening match at 174 but bounced back with an 8-6 Decision over Isahi Gonzola. Oklahoma’s Andrew Spangler then pinned Stewart at 6:32 in the wrestleback.

Cumberland takes on third-ranked Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening in Columbia, Ky.
