LEBANON, Tenn. – Jake Williams placed second and Jesse Green finished third, leading a small contingent of Cumberland wrestlers on Saturday at the Greyhound Open in Indianapolis, Ind.
Williams continued his dominance this season at 149, pinning Ashland University’s Nathan Carmichael at 3:52 and Luke Blanton at 4:58 as well as winning by Technical Fall, 20-5, over Indiana Tech’s John Weldon. But the junior suffered his first loss of the season in the finals, also by Tech Fall, 17-0, to Clarion University’s Quinton Murphy.
Green posted a 5-1 Decision over Wabash’s Jake Barclay at 197 before losing a 6-2 Decision to Ohio University’s Kyle O’Donnell. In the wrestleback he won a 14-7 Decision versus Jared Boehm from the University of Indianapolis before pinning Barclay at 1:43. He received a Medical Forfeit against Fred Byars from the University of the Cumberlands and recorded a 4-1 Decision over O’Donnell in the third place match.
Freshman Kyle Delaune also had an extended run at 174 after losing by Fall at 2:13 in his first match to Notre Dame College’s Joey Davis. Delaune rebounded in the wrestleback, winning an 8-1 Decision over teammate JohnMark Reddick and pinning Wabash College’s Mark Maldonado at 1:07 and Ohio State’s Rasheed Flowers before dropping a 10-2 Major Decision to Ohio State’s Jacob Bresciani.
Cumberland heads to sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson for the club’s final dual match of the year on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
