Turner places fourth at Greyhound Open
Tommie Turner placed fourth on Saturday at 285 at the Greyhound Open.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior Tommie Turner posted four wins in the wrestleback en route to a fourth-place finish and freshman Tony Crowell also won twice, leading a small Cumberland contingent at the Greyhound Open in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday.

Turner lost his first bout at 285 to Southern Illinois’ Jake McKiernan by Fall at 6:36 but rebounded in the backdraw, collecting a 7-2 Decision versus Indiana Tech’s Isiah Bollenbacher. The Dacula, Ga., native won 5-4 in sudden victory against Indiana’s Cole Jones and 4-2 in the third sudden victory period versus Ohio University’s Devin King before picking up a Forfeit. In the third-place match Turner lost a 10-4 Decision to Purdue University’s Jacob Aven.

Crowell also dropped his first match at 197 to Ohio’s Nate Hall by Fall at 2:33 but registered a 3-1 Decision over McKendree University’s Chad Lowe and a 5-2 Decision against McKendree’s Luke Diener. The Lakeland, Fla., native lost to Ouachita Baptist’s Austin Hailey by Technical Fall, 17-0.

Redshirt sophomore Clifford Terrell registered a 7-5 win in sudden victory against Lindsey Wilson’s Xavier Pate at 197 before losing a 7-0 Decision to Indiana’s Zach Horowitz. The Brentwood, Tenn., native also dropped a 4-2 Decision to Hailey in the wrestleback.

Junior Brandon Weber lost a 5-2 Decision at 141 to Ohio’s KeVon Powell in the first bout. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native posted a 14-4 Major Decision against Indiana Tech’s Chris Tingle in the wrestleback before dropping a 12-7 Decision to McKendree’s Nate Smalling.

Freshman Ricky Ratcliff dropped a 4-1 Decision to McKendree’s Ryan Strope in his first outing at 149. The West Jefferson, Ohio, native recorded a 19-0 Tech Fall against Mike Krzyston from the University of the Cumberlands before losing a 5-4 Decision to Indiana Tech’s Jon Watkins.

Junior Peter Donchev posted a 10-1 Major Decision in his first bout at 165 against Davenport University’s Austin Vannatter before losing a 6-3 Decision to Ohio’s Arsen Ashughyan. In the backdraw the San Diego, Calif., native dropped a 3-2 Decision to Davenport’s Dominic Trevino.

Cumberland heads to St. Catharine College this Saturday for its final dual match of the season before taking part in the NAIA East Region Qualifier on Saturday, February 20, in Marietta, Ga.
