Miami Gardens, Fla.- #6 Cumberland was able to go 2-0 on the day, as the Phoenix were able to defeat Keiser University 46-6, and St. Thomas University, 41-14.
Cumberland Vs Keiser
The Phoenix started off in the 285 weight class where Grant Clarkson was able to put points on the board first for the Phoenix as he defeated Earnest Johnson by fall, 3:34 in the match. For the 125 Pacey Najdusak won due to forfeit.
Blaine Fussel also won due to forfeit, putting the Phoenix up 18-0 after three matches. Keshawn Law was able to overcome Zachary Fix as he won due to a 16-0 Technical Fall in the 141. Anthony Maia was able to come out victorious due to another Keiser forfeit.
Tyler Moore was able defeated Calvin Curtis by a 13-3 major decision in the 157. In the 165, Cole Smith fought a hard match as he was able to squeak out the win by a 2-1 decision. Austin Antcliffe continued to dominate for the Phoenix as he was able to win due to fall over Kaelan Jones in the 174.
John Olivieri was able to record the second major decision for the Phoenix as he defeated Josh Crandall, 14-5 in the 184. Dante Cooper was able to put the first points on the board for Keiser as he won due to a Forfeit, allowing the Phoenix to win the match 46-6.
Cumberland vs St. Thomas
Pacey Najdusak put the first points on the board for the Phoenix as he was able win due to forfeit in the 125. At 133, Blaine Fussell was defeated by Nick Foster by a 14-6 major decision. For the 141, Keshawn Laws was able to end the match quickly as he won due to a fall against Malik Cook, 3:44 in the match.
Anthony Maia went on and defeated Kade Clute due to a fall 4:14 in the match. Tyler Moore was defeated by St. Thomas’s Daniel Garlin by a 12-2 major decision in the 157. Cole Smith defeated Alexander Nieves by fall, 0:28 seconds into the match, putting the Phoenix up 24-8.
In the 174, Austin Antcliffe was able to come victorious as he defeated Kevin Augustin by a 16-0 Technical fall. John Olivieri recorded the forth fall of the day for the Phoenix, as he defeated Estaban Hoyos by fall, 2:12 in the match.
St. Thomas’s Jesus Perez won due to forfeit against the Phoenix. Grant Clarkson finished the day out for the Phoenix as he was able to defeat Jonathan Evans by a fall, 1:16 in the match at 285. The Phoenix were able to defeat St. Thomas, 41-14.
Cumberland will continue on the road as they will be facing against the #13 University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday January 20th, in Williamsburg, Kentucky at 6 P.M.
