Joey Simcoe enters his second season as the assistant wrestling coach at Cumberland University.
Simcoe was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American at the University of Findlay in Ohio. He also made one appearance in the NAIA National Wrestling Championships as a freshman before Findlay made the move to Division II.
In his career he defeated multiple NCAA Division I All-Americans, including a current World Team member three times and a current NCAA Division I head coach by technical fall. Academically Simcoe graduated with a 3.45 cumulative grade-point-average, making the Dean's list six semesters. As a senior he was named a Division II Academic All-American.
He was selected a team captain twice at Findlay for head coach Shawn Nelson and graduated with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice in 2004.
Simcoe spent the next three years at Findlay as a volunteer assistant coach, helping the Roughnecks to fifth and sixth-place finishes at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2005 and 2006, respectively. He tutored 11 All-Americans and three national champions during his tenure at Findlay before moving on to serve as an assistant coach at McComb High School in McComb, Ohio, during the 2008-09 academic year.
Simcoe and his wife Sally have three children - Joey (9), Savana (7) and Maddox (5).
