Mike Swift begins his third season as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at Cumberland.
The Erie, Pa., native and graduate of Erie McDowell High School, Swift placed two times in the top four at the PIAA state tournament. In college he wrestled at California University of Pennsylvania and had a remarkable career record of 160-34-2.
His school-record career victory total still ranks sixth among NCAA career leaders, and Swift also owns the school record for pins with 44. He was a three-time co-captain and three-time most valuable wrestler. He won four NCAA Regional Championships and was twice named outstanding wrestler of the Regional tournament. The three-time All-American placed fifth and second at the NCAA Division II nationals at 150 in 1990 and 1991, respectively, and placed eighth at 142 in 1993 during the NCAA Division I nationals.
Swift graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 1993 with a bachelor's in Business Administration. Two years later, he received a master's degree in Finance from Northern Illinois University, where he also served as the Huskies' assistant wrestling coach for two years.
Swift is currently a recruiter at Lockheed Martin in Nashville and deals with the defense and space industry. He resides in Hermitage, Tenn.
