Shelbyville's Martin transferring to Cumberland
LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University soccer coach Jeff Loucks announced the signing of University of Tennessee transfer and Shelbyville Central High School product Hannah Martin to scholarship papers for the 2010-11 academic year.
Martin is the sixth signee for the Bulldogs for next season, joining Rhianne Parsons (Tavistock, Milton Abbot, England), Mackenzie Park (White House, Tenn.), Hanna Sparks (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Ashley Rolen (Hermitage, Tenn.) and Musheda Haji (Nashville, Tenn.).
Martin played in one match during her freshman season in Knoxville in 2008. She was a four-year letterwinner and four-time All-District selection at Shelbyville Central while serving as team captain as a senior. She was voted the District Midfielder of the Year as a senior and helped the Golden Eaglettes to three district championship games and one district title. She was also named All-Region and to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Team as a senior.
“Hannah is a Division I level player transferring into the nursing program at Cumberland,” Loucks said. “This is a great signing for the women’s program. Hannah is an excellent player and should have an immediate impact on the club.”
She also earned four letters in track and field and was a member of the 4x200-meter relay at SCHS. She graduated eighth in her class with a 4.0 grade-point-average and made the Principal’s List in each of her last three years of high school.
Martin helped her club team, Real Madrid in Brentwood, to six straight state championships, including three consecutive from 2005-07. In 2007 Real Madrid was ranked third in the region and seventh nationally.
She is the daughter of Harvey and Lisa Martin.
