CU falls at Martin Methodist

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cierra Boots made 16 saves in goal but sixth-ranked Martin Methodist scored a pair of goals just before halftime and then two more just after the break en route to an 11-0 victory in women’s soccer action Thursday night in Pulaski, Tenn.
The Bulldogs (2-7-2, 0-3-1 TranSouth) played without leading scorer Helena Dimantas Farias and did not have a shot in the match. Martin Methodist (11-2-2, 5-0-1) took 39 shots, including 27 on-goal.
Camilla Hovden scored four goals for the Red Hawks, while Yalu Borbolla added three and Amelia Pereira netted a pair of scores. Daniel Sofer handed out three assists and also scored once.
The Bulldogs trailed just 3-0 with less than five minutes until halftime before Hovden scored two of her goals in the final four minutes, both on assists from Sofer. Borbolla and Pereira both netted scores in the first five minutes of the second half, as the Red Hawks took complete control of the match.
Cumberland plays its final regular season matches next week, both at Friendship Christian School. The men’s and women’s teams host Freed-Hardeman on Thursday starting at 2 p.m., and the women’s squad takes on Bethel Univ. Friday at 3 p.m.
