Long's late goal gives CU 2-2 draw
LEBANON, Tenn. – Lisa Long scored in the final minute of regulation and Cierra Boots made seven saves in goal, including one penalty kick in the first overtime, in a 2-2 draw against Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday night in women’s soccer action in Nashville, Tenn.
Long scored her second goal of the season with less than 40 seconds remaining in the match, tying the score at two and sending the two teams into sudden-death overtime. In the 100th minute Boots saved a penalty kick by Kayla Vanes,
Cumberland (2-6-2, 0-2-1 TranSouth) scored the first goal of the match as well on freshman Louise Norton’s second goal of the year in the 60th minute.
But the Trojans (5-6-1, 1-2-1) netted a pair of goals shortly after Norton’s score. Vanes booted in a rebound in the 63rd minute to square the match before Kassie Evick’s go-ahead score three minutes later on an assist from Vanes.
The Bulldogs kept attacking in the final minutes and finally got the equalizer on an assist from Brittany Kirby less than 40 seconds from the final whistle.
Cumberland plays at Martin Methodist Thursday at 6 p.m. in a rescheduled from last week.
