LEBANON, Tenn. – Louise Norton scored in the 80th minute to put Cumberland ahead, but Montreat netted two goals on free kicks in the final 10 minutes for a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs in women’s soccer action this past weekend in Montreat, N.C.
Norton scored her first goal of the season for CU (2-4-1) in the 80th minute on an assist from Simone Quinn, as the Bulldogs looked to extend their unbeaten streak to three matches.
But Montreat’s Kaitlyn Thacker scored on free kicks in the 87th and 88th minutes to give the Cavaliers (1-5-1) the win.
Montreat outshot the Bulldogs, 14-5, in the match, but CU keeper Cierra Boots kept the Cavaliers off the scoreboard until the final minutes. Boots made five saves in the match, compared to just one save for the two Montreat keepers.
Cumberland hosts Union University this Friday in a men’s and women’s doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the CU Soccer Field.
