CU drops 8-0 decision, reschedules Bethel match
LEBANON, Tenn. – Megan Rossee and Anja Klotzle each scored a pair of goals and Katie Marshall and Katy Smith both posted two assists in Lyon College’s 8-0 victory over Cumberland in women’s soccer action Monday in Batesville, Ark.
Lyon scored in the third minute and then netted four goals in an eight-minute span midway through the first half to take a 5-0 lead at halftime. The Pipers scored three more times in the second half, the final goal in the 85th minute from Rossee.
CU keeper Cierra Boots made 11 saves in the match, while the Bulldogs had just one shot. CU (2-4-1) played without its top player, Helena Dimantas Farias, because of injury.
Marshall assisted on Smith’s goal in the third minute for Lyon. Rossee headed in a goal in the 22nd minute on an assist from Smith, and Klotzle netted her first goal of the match two minutes later.
Marshall scored on an assist from Smith and Klotzle in the 27th minute before Klotzle registered her second goal of the half three minutes later.
Dawn Hatfield scored for Lyon in the 55th minute and Amber Mathieson posted a goal for the home team in the 68th minute.
Cumberland plays its TranSouth Conference home opener Wednesday against Bethel University at 3 p.m. in a rescheduled match from last week.
