CU falls 3-1 to Campbellsville
Helena Dimantas Farias scored CU's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Campbellsville on Thursday.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University put up 18 shots and missed several excellent scoring opportunities in both halves, dropping a 3-1 decision to Campbellsville University on Thursday.

The Bulldogs (1-3-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes of the match on a pair of goals from the Tigers’ Kelsey Mandel, first on a chip shot on an assist from Megan Campbell in the 10th minute and a second shot from the top of the box in the 19th minute on an assist from Rebekah Carl.

Cumberland’s Helena Dimantas Farias cut the Campbellsville lead in half with a shot from 20 yards out to the left of the keeper on an assist from Rhianne Parsons in the 21st minute. Farias and Parsons led the way for the Bulldogs, accounting for 14 of CU’s 18 shots with seven apiece. For her efforts Dimantas Farias was named the Music City Star of the Game.

Campbellsville keeper Brandie Hagerman made 12 saves on 13 shots on goal, including 10 of 11 in the first half. Mandel finished off the scoring for the day, completing a hat trick with a second chip shot past goalkeeper Hanna Sparks in the 52nd minute on an assist from Ashley Corum.

The Bulldogs are back in action in their first TranSouth Conference matchup of the season at Bethel University on Tuesday, September 21 at 4 p.m.
