Women's soccer stays unbeaten with 2-1 victory

LEBANON, Tenn. – Helena Dimantas Farias scored in the fourth minute and Rhianne Parsons added the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick in the 29th minute, as Cumberland stayed undefeated with a 2-1 victory Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.

Dimantas Farias scored early on an assist from Michelle Ward and then drew a penalty kick when UC keeper Brittney Gadd went for the ball and grabbed her around the neck. Parsons put the PK away for a 2-0 advantage for the Bulldogs (5-0-0). The Patriots (2-4-0) cut into the lead on a goal from Danna Stringle in the 41st minute.

Cumberland posted a 19-14 advantage in shots, including 11-6 in the second half, but the Bulldogs were unable to add to the lead. Elizabeth Surdam made six saves in net to post the victory for CU. Gadd finished the match with 13 saves for UC

Cumberland opens TranSouth Conference action Tuesday against Bethel University at 2 p.m. at the CU Soccer Field.
