Five players score in women's soccer victory

LEBANON, Tenn. – Samantha Skinner scored in thee first four minutes of the match and Shauna Gilpin, Helena Dimantas Farias, Morgan Shaffer and Beth Morgan all added goals for Cumberland in a 5-0 victory against Oakland City University in women’s soccer action Saturday.

Dimantas Farias assisted on Skinner’s and Gilpin’s goals in the first half and then scored in the 59th minute for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Skinner’s second goal of the year on an assist from Dimantas Farias put the Bulldogs (9-2-0) ahead, 1-0, in the fourth minute of the match, with the freshman’s shot from the leftside just out of the reach of OCU keeper Emily Karns.

Gilpin’s third goal in 2011 came on another assist from Dimantas Farias. Gilpin’s shot low and left made it past Karns in the 16th minute.

Shaffer scored unassisted in the 74th minute, her third goal of the season, and Morgan’s shot from the top of the box was her second of the season.

Elizabeth Surdam played the first half and did not have a save for the Bulldogs, and Lindsay Kitson made three saves in the second half in net for CU. Cumberland outshot the Mighty Oaks (1-7-0), 35-4, in the match.

Karns posted 12 saves in goal for OCU.

Cumberland plays this Tuesday at Georgetown College at 5 p.m. CT.
