LEBANON, Tenn. – Rebecca Holloway and Mariah Aplin both scored for 16th-ranked Cumberland, as the Phoenix remained undefeated in league play and ran its winning streak to six overall with a 2-0 victory over Shawnee State in women’s soccer action Wednesday in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Cumberland (9-3-1, 5-0-0 Mid-South) outshot the Bears, 14-9, but seven saves by SSU’s Michaela Garner kept the Phoenix from expanding the lead.
Holloway found the back of the net for the sixth time this year with an assist from Emily Shires in the 22nd minute. Aplin netted her eighth goal of the season in the 53rd minute, heading in a corner kick from Savannah Moreland for the 2-0 edge.
Cumberland’s Ashley Kambeitz finished with three saves against the Bears (8-4-2, 1-3-1).
Cumberland concludes the home schedule this Saturday with a Noon match against the University of Pikeville. Seniors Kaitlen Kisiloski, Amanda Nugent, Alys Maynord and Shires will be honored before the match.
