LEBANON, Tenn. -- Mid-South Conference officials unveiled this morning that conference coaches have selected Cumberland women's soccer to finish second out of nine teams for the 2019 season. The 2018 squad ranked second last year in the Mid-South, finishing the season 16-3-1 (5-1-1 MSC).

Cumberland returns multiple key pieces from last year's team, including NAIA All-American and MSC Defensive Player of the Year, Sarah Haddock and two other All-Conference players in Haley Stevens and Kenzi Vetter. The Phoenix bring in a strong infusion of new talent through both true freshmen and transfers. When looking at the talent on his team as well as the rest of the conference, Head Coach Brian Davies thinks the MSC will be very competetive this year.

"The overall level of play and talent in the Mid-South has been increasing every year." Davies said, "I think that almost anyone can win the league this year."

Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) claimed the top spot, garnering 62 total points and six of the nine first place votes. The Phoenix follow closely with 56 points and a single first place vote. The only other team to recieve first place votes was University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), placing third with 52 points and the remaining two first place votes.

Campbellsville (Ky.) came in at fourth with 41 points, while Georgetown (Ky.) and Life (Ga.) were the last teams to earn at least 30 points with 33 for fifth place and 32 for sixth place, respectively.

In its first season in the Mid-South, Thomas More joins in at seventh with 21 points after going 6-12-2 last year in NCAA DIII. Shawnee State (Ohio) and University of Pikeville (Ky.) round out the poll with 19 and eight points, respectively.

The Cumberland women's soccer season opens on the road at Tennessee Wesleyan on August 24th at 1 p.m. The team's home opener is set for a week later on the 31st against MidAmerica Nazarene at 3 p.m.
