LEBANON, Tenn.--Macy Douglas scores two goals to propel Cumberland to a 2-1 victory over Mid-South Conference rival Bethel University at Lindsey Donnell Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Cumberland (8-2-0, 3-1-0 MSC) picked up three big points in the conference with the win over Bethel. The first half was a defensive battle that featured just five shots combined between both squads before the second half intensity picked up play.

Bethel (5-3-2, 1-2-1 MSC) had few opportunities as the defensive efforts for Cumberland shined today allowing just two shots on goal for the Wildcats.

The Phoenix finally broke through in the half after six corner kicks. Marie Bathe found Macy Douglas for a header that Douglas buried in the back of the net in the 21st minute for the lone score in the first half. Cumberland put just one shot on goal in the half.

Ainhoa Chirivella scored the equalizer in the 58th minute of the game as she threaded through the backline of Cumberland and buried a shot in the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Douglas scored her second goal of the match in the 78th minute as she dribbled around a defender and beat the Bethel keeper for the game winner.

Cumberland totalled 19 shots in the contest with eight shots on goal compared to Bethel’s eight shots and two on target.

The Phoenix had 11 corner kicks in the match, capitalizing on one for the first goal. Bethel had just three corners and were unable to get a shot off any of them.

Sabrina Gratziano moves to 7-2-0 in goal this season having to make just one save.

Cumberland will be on the road for their next two matchups next week starting on the road at Pikeville on Tuesday.
