Akari Miura earns TranSouth POW

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University’s Larissa Akari Miura was named the TranSouth Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after winning three of her four matches over the weekend, including two doubles victories and a singles triumph against Belmont University.

Akari Miura teamed with Courtney Schaub to defeat Belmont’s Abby Leatherwood and Fabiana Mersan, 8-6, Friday at No. 1. She then defeated Leatherwood at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-0. On Sunday at Western Kentucky, Akari Miura and Schaub posted a 9-8 triumph at No. 1 doubles against McKinley Mason and Monta Reinfelde. She lost her singles match to Reinfelde at No. 2. The freshman is now 5-4 overall in singles this year and 4-2 overall in doubles.

Cumberland hosts 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Tuesday before taking on Auburn Montgomery, St. Petersburg College and Hillsborough Community College on the road, all over Spring Break.
