LEBANON, Tenn. – Larissa Akari Miura, Anita Rácz and Amber Johnson all posted singles victories but it was not enough, as Cumberland dropped a 6-3 decision in women’s tennis action Friday to Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla.

Cumberland (0-6) lost all three doubles matches, giving HCC the upper hand, and the home team took advantage to post the victory.

Paula Gruber and Sara Johansson defeated Akari Miura and Courtney Schaub, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while Terri Thomas and Amanda Ingrilli posted an 8-4 victory at No. 2 against Rácz and Johnson and McKenzie O’Brien and Jibri Bailey won 8-2 against Tais Lacerda Bezerra and Lindsey Gaither.

In singles the Bulldogs split the six matches, winning two in straight sets and another in a super tiebreaker.

Akari Miura defeated Gruber, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 and Rácz posted a 6-1, 6-3, victory at No. 3 against Thomas. Johnson outlasted O’Brien, 4-6, 6-3, 10-1, at No. 4.

Johansson defeated Schaub, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, while Ingrilli won 6-4, 7-5, over Lacerda Bezerra and Bailey posted a 6-1, 6-1, triumph at No. 6 versus Gaither.

Cumberland hosts the Univ. of the Cumberlands on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts on the CU campus.
