LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland lost one doubles match in a tiebreaker and Ainhoa Garjio Garrido and Sarah Edwards each dropped singles outings in three sets in a 7-0 loss to Belmont in women’s tennis action Friday night in Brentwood, Tenn.

The Bruins (2-7) won all three doubles matches, all in tight sets, to take a 1-0 overall lead in the match.

Lindsey Whitehead and Kendall Warren collected a 7-5 decision at No. 1 over Garjio Garrido and Franki Jecker and Laura Kent and Laura Van Eeckhoudt edged Edwards and Marta Ferrando Pea, 7-2, in a tiebreaker at No. 2. Micah Johnson and Suzanna Stapler recorded a 6-4 win at No. 3 against Jasmine Shankar and Beleń Salazar Yańez.

In singles Kent came back to defeat Garjio Garrido, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5, at No. 1, while Whitehead won at No. 2 against Ferrando Pea and Van Eeckhoudt versus Shankar at No. 3 by the same score, 6-1, 6-3.

Warren registered a 6-3, 6-3, decision over Jecker at No. 4 and Stapler collected a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 5 against Salazar Yańez. Maddie Gilley also came from a set down to defeat Edwards at No. 6, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2.

Cumberland (0-3) plays again March 3 at Tennessee Wesleyan and March 7 at Martin Methodist.
