CU women fall twice in exhibitions at Murray State

LEBANON, Tenn. – Ainhoa Garijo Garrido and Jessica Hernandez won at No. 1 doubles and both players lost singles outings in three sets, as Cumberland dropped a pair of exhibition matches to Murray State in women’s tennis action Sunday in Aurora, Ky.

Garijo Garrido and Hernandez defeated Jeanne Masson and Claire Chang, 7-6, at No. 1 doubles in the first match of the day, but the Racers posted 6-2 victories in the other two doubles outings. Stasya Sharapova and Anja Loncarevic won against Ksenija Dmitrovic and Marianela Landi and MSU’s Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic posted a victory over Kylie Humphrey and Stefanie Navaratnam.

In singles Garijo Garrido won the first set, 6-0, versus Sharapova before losing the final two sets at No. 1 while Anja Loncarevic defeated Hernandez, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. Aarja Chakraborty collected a 6-1, 6-1, victory at No. 3 against Dmotrovic and Hadzic recorded a 6-4, 6-1, win over Landi at No. 4.

Masson posted a 6-0, 6-2, triumph versus Humphrey at No. 5 and Sara Loncarevic won by the same score at No. 6 against Navaratnam.

The two teams played again Sunday afternoon, with the Racers taking all three doubles outings.

Anja Loncarevic and Sharapova defeated Garijo Garrido and Hernandez, 6-1, at No. 1 while Chang and Masson registered a 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Navaratnam and Humphrey and Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic won 6-1 at No. 3 versus Dmitrovic and Landi.

In singles Anja Loncarevic tallied a 6-2, 6-2, victory at No. 1 over Garijo Garrido and Hernandez lost in a super tiebreaker in the third set, 10-3, against Sharapova, at No. 2. Hadzic defeated Dmitrovic, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 and Chakraborty won, 6-1, 6-3, versus Landi at No. 4.

Sara Loncarevic posted a 6-0, 6-1, triumph at No. 5 against Humphrey and Masson ended the match with a 6-1, 6-2, win at No. 6 versus Ana María Collazos.

Cumberland plays exhibition matches against Austin Peay on February 5 and Belmont on Feb. 23 before opening the regular season at home Feb. 26 versus Tennessee Wesleyan.
