OWENSBORO, Ky.--Phoenix women's tennis picked up a 6-1 win over Georgetown in the quarterfinals, but the University of the Cumberlands sent Cumberland to the consolation match Friday evening.
Cumberland won their first match of the day defeating Georgetown 6-1. Cumberland won the doubles point, winning two-out of three matches. Jessica Hernandez and Maria Arbelaez defeated Maci Ferguson and Michaela Montori 6-4. Alexandra Leisibach and Carly Earnhardt beat Emma Hill and Madelyn Gill 6-4.
In singles action, Hernandez beat Montori in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Arbelaez handled Ana Forero quickly, winning 6-0, 6-1. Samantha Spady picked up the one point the Tigers had, defeating Kaede Hatano in a tough three set match, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
Earnhardt defeated Lydia Price 6-0,6-1 while Leisibach beat Megan Moore in another tough three-set match after she lost the first set. Lara Zugasti defeated Maci Ferguson at No. 6 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
By winning, the Phoenix advanced to the semifinals to take on the University of the Cumberlands this evening. The Cumberlands picked up a 6-1 victory to send Cumberland to the consolation match against Shawnee State tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
The Patriots took all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. In singles competition, Maria Arbelaz was the only Phoenix to pick up a victory in a very tough three set match over Meiri Okuwaki.
