PORTSMOUTH, Ohio--Cumberland University's women's tennis team dominated Shawnee State on the road, winning 7-0 on Friday.
The doubles matches set the tone for the match, with Cumberland's Jessica Hernandez and Maria Arbelaez defeating Claire Carruthers and Lacey Urban 6-2 in the first position. Lara Zugasti and Elina Sungatullina quickly followed with a 6-0 win over Lexy Urban and Antonia Ilea in the second position. Juanita Mendez and Carlee Teague finished the doubles sweep for Cumberland, defeating Brooklyn Fouse and Anna Vogt 6-2 in the third position.
In singles, Hernandez continued her strong play, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Lacey Urban in the first position. Arbelaez defeated Carruthers 6-4, 6-1 in the second position, and Mendez won 6-2, 6-3 against Ilea in the third position.
Zugasti defeated Vogt 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth position, while Kaede Hatano won 6-4, 6-1 against Lexy Urban in the fifth position. Alexandra Leisibach completed the sweep for Cumberland with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kenzie Harmon in the sixth position.
Cumberland improves to 4-11 with the win. The Phoenix are back in action tomorrow against Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky.
