LEBANON, Tenn. – Faith Wilson and Kalea Barnett each won two events and Cumberland posted seven first-place finishes en route to its first-ever team victory in women’s track and field Saturday at the BSC Hilltop Classic in Birmingham, Ala.
Wilson registered first-place showings in the 200 and 400-meters with times of 26.25 and 1:01.85, respectively, while Cimone Toppin placed second in the 100-meters in 12.88 and fourth in the 200 in 27.50. Madison Dalhover was third in the 200 in 27.01 and fourth in the 100 in 13.14. Sanura Rhodes placed fifth in the 100 in 13.18 and Madison Plaggenburg was fourth in the 400 in 1:05.87 and sixth in the 200 in 27.72.
Riley Kilian won the 5000-meters for the Phoenix in 19:24.08, Abby Gawthorp was first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 13:11.01 and Amber Mays finished fifth in the 1500-meters in 5:05.66. The women’s 4x100-meter relay of Rhodes, Wilson, Dalhover and Toppin was first in 49.78.
In the field events Barnett won the shot put with a toss of 39-7.75 and was first in the hammer throw with a mark of 140-11.75. She also placed second in the discus with a mark of 117-9.75.
Mahogany Huddleston finished fifth in the shot put (33-3.25) and the hammer (117-4.25) while Kara Smith was sixth in the discus (94-2.75) and seventh in the shot put (29-2). Sydney Clere placed eighth in the hammer (83-9.5).
Cumberland competes again this weekend at the Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday in Bowling Green, Ky.
