LEBANON, Tenn. – Abby Gawthorp placed second in the steeplechase, Kalea Barnett finished second in the shot put and Riley Kilian collected third and fourth-place showings in two distance events for Cumberland women’s track and field at the Mid-South Conference Championships this weekend in Williamsburg, Ky.
Gawthorp completed the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:29.17 for second place while Kilian was third in the 10000-meters in 40:18.00 (the first event of the championships on Friday) and finished fourth in the 5000-meters on Saturday in 19:20.57.
Barnett placed in the Top 5 in three field events, taking second on the shot put with a mark of 44-5. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native tossed the discus 119-2 for fifth and was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 148-1. Sydney Clere also was eighth in the javelin (75-4) for the Phoenix.
Amber Mays finished fourth in the 1500-meters in 5:00.53 and was seventh in the 800-meters in 2:38.92 while Cimone Toppin placed fifth in the 100-meters in 13.00.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Mays, Hannah Spring, Gawthorp and Kilian finished fifth in 10:34.92 and the 4x100-meter relay of Alexis Powell, Faith Wilson, Madison Dalhover and Toppin placed fifth in 49.41.
